CCPO Supports the LGBTQA+ Community

“We are all human and being human is enough. That’s it.” -Sharon Woods

LGBTQA+ Pride month is celebrated each June. This year, the Cloud Computing Program Office (CCPO) helped coordinate DISA’s celebratory event centered on the theme, Journey to Now, which recognized various LGBTQA+ political and legal events that have brought us to where we are today. CCPO’s Executive Director and LGBTQA+ Employee Resource Group (ERG) Senior Champion, Sharon Woods led the planning and coordination of this first of its kind employee forum to discuss a range of topics.

On Tuesday 22 June, 2021, over 177 participants joined a brown bag event with four members and allies of the community for a panel discussion on LGBTQA+ education, advice for allies, and workplace practices. The panel was moderated by Ms. Woods and included an introduction from Lt Gen Skinner. The hour-long event was an informative, fun, and interesting conversation that had a lively online chat that resulted in a strong sense of community. While the event prioritized education, it also focused on celebrating the LGBTQA+ community. Perhaps, most importantly, it was a demonstration of DISA’s continued commitment to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion.

While there is still work to be done, it is important to celebrate and take note of accomplishments and contributions of the LGBTQA+ community in the DoD. CCPO is proud to have been part of this event and supports any initiative that works to promote diversity and equality across the organization.
