Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Bartos, USMC User Engagement Representative, Cloud Computing Program Office
LtCol Bartos’ last day at CCPO was Thursday, 05 August 2021. He was an integral part of the CCPO fabric and culture, and will be greatly missed.
What are your primary roles and responsibilities as part of the user engagement team?
To foster adoption of cloud computing technologies by introducing new ideas and solutions and soliciting the needs and concerns of the user community, with a heavy emphasis on the Marine Corps’ interests.
Why is it important that CCPO/DISA and USMC have a collaborative relationship?
As a combat support agency at the enterprise level, sometimes there is difficulty recognizing the tactical-level challenges that the Marine Corps faces. Additionally, CCPO/DISA has access to enterprise resources and solutions that are often difficult to appreciate from the Marine Corps’ perspective or understand how those resources can be applied towards tactical-level challenges. A collaborative relationship builds and synergizes the strengths and efforts of each organization.
How can CCPO better serve USMC, or perhaps, how do you hope that CCPO and USMC partner in the future?
Given the complexity of challenges faced by the Marine Corps, the CCPO is able to move quickly to build rapid prototypes that can be scaled for the Marine Corps through the standard acquisition system.
What is an accomplishment that are you proud of?
Supporting each of the overseas deployments on which I’ve participated. Whether to support combat, theater security cooperation, or exercises to plan, prepare, and execute all of the actions needed to move a unit overseas and then successfully operate is motivating and satisfying.
Lt Col Bartos’ going away gathering on 27 July 20201. Lt Col Bartos is known for his loyalty to the USMC, ability to keep a straight face, work ethic, and being an overwhelmingly wonderful human to work with.
Lieutenant Colonel Bartos served as the Marine Corps User Engagement Representative within the Cloud Computing Program Office (CCPO) following completion of the Marine Corps’ Special Education Program. In this position, he assisted with the deployment of the largest Microsoft Teams tenant deployment in the world, the Commercial Virtual Remote environment and managed its program transition from CCPO to the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) in October 2020. He also supported the deployment of the enterprise wide identity management and authentication Global Directory project and managed the CCPO cloud computing tactical edge project to increase network survivability at the edge.
